I finished this book last week. It’s the novel I’ve enjoyed most this year. The opening chapter amazed me – simply through dialogue I felt I was in the courts with Casi and his clients, and knew them all. (It’s very satisfying when they appear again at the end of the book.) The reviewer is right about the voice, it is astonishing throughout, and “tender” is a good word for Casi: he cares about everyone he meets. In the heist scene the writing changes, is pared back, to create a tension I found almost unbearable. I have been wondering why no publisher saw the talent here. I’m really glad I saw this book mentioned on Scott Esposito’s
site and I hope many more people will discover it.
